Section 1

PCA 53rd General Assembly Retrospective

The PCA's 53rd General Assembly in Louisville closed with signs of denominational health: RE Melton Duncan was elected moderator, TE Fred Greco was elected Stated Clerk, the Assembly acted on overtures and agency reports, and the denomination continued to wrestle seriously with worship, polity, Christian nationalism, church planting, campus ministry, and constitutional clarity. R2 now has a dedicated PCA GA archive with the Assembly Journal, final overture status, the GA history quiz, and GA53 briefing cards.

Section 2

PC(USA) 227th General Assembly: Another Mainline Turn Toward Activist Theology

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) met in Milwaukee under the theme "Persevering Toward Wholeness," electing Marta Pumroy-Cordero and Rev. Dr. Kristopher Schondelmeyer as co-moderators and approving plans to hold the 2028 assembly in Puerto Rico. The Assembly also approved a $188.4 million two-year budget, advanced Book of Order language condemning White Christian nationalism as theological error, and took high-profile public-policy actions on Gaza, divestment, and corporate engagement. R2 readers will agree with some ordinary Presbyterian concerns about order, accountability, and public witness, but much of GA227 again shows how far the largest American Presbyterian body has moved from confessional Presbyterianism toward progressive political theology.
